USACA names Robin Singh as new coach

The USA Cricket Association on Friday named former India cricketer Robin Singh as the national USA coach. The former India all-rounder and fielding coach will help prepare the USA Under-19 team for next month's ICC Americas Region Division 1 tournament scheduled for Brian Piccolo and Central Broward Regional Parks, in Lauderhill, Florida.

Born in Trinidad, West Indies, the left-handed batsman and right-arm medium pacer has also coached the Deccan Chargers in the inaugural IPL tournament, and the India national team as a specialist fielding coach. He is currently also the coach of Mumbai Indians. Singh has also represented India in 136 ODIs, scoring at an average of 25.75 and grabbing 69 wickets.

He will initially replace former West Indies Test Player Sew Shivnarain as the USA Under-19 coach for the upcoming ICC Americas Tournament. It is expected that his role may expand to include coaching USA national teams in other upcoming ICC sanctioned tournaments.

Shivnarain recently coached the USA Under-19 team through two ICC qualifying rounds in Canada and onto the ICC U19 CWC 2010 in New Zealand.

The participating teams in the upcoming ICC Americas Regional Under-19 tournament in Florida are Argentina, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, and the USA. The winner and runner-up teams from the tournament will qualify to participate in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament, scheduled to be held in Ireland.
