Wavell Hinds signs up to play for Derbyshire

West Indian cricketer Wavell Hinds has recently signed up with county club Derbyshire as their overseas player. The southpaw who has opened many matches for the West Indies has played 45 Tests and 114 one-day internationals with 10 centuries to his credit.
He will be filling in the shoes of Australian Chris Rogers as he makes his debut for the club in their domestic Twenty20 tournament as their overseas player. Rogers will return on July 11 as he is on a mid-season break for the Championship match against Leicestershire and hence the West Indian will take his place in the Derbyshire squad.
Hinds was originally slated to appear for the Phantoms for the entire season as a Kolpak player but will now make his appearance for Derbyshire instead in their group matches.
The cricketer from the Caribbean, who is known for his batting skills and can also be handy with the ball if required, can contribute a lot to the team’s cause in helping them reach the quarter-finals.
However, if Derbyshire makes it to the final four of the group at the semi-finals, then Chris Rogers will replace Hinds.
Hinds will also be available for the County Championship match which will see Derbyshire going up against Essex commencing on June 29.
John Morris, head of cricket in Derbyshire said that his side could use a player like Hinds as he has qualities the side needs.
