One of the latest sensations in Indian cricket who did not travel to Australia during the memorable 2003-04 series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has made rapid strides in the international circuit, said that he is confident about his team’s chances in the forthcoming four-Test series against Australia.
Dhoni has expressed that ‘adaptability’ is the name of the game and that the subcontinent giants could succeed in alien conditions depending on how fast they could fine tune their overall approach towards the challenge ahead.
The wicket-keeper batsman was the ODI captain when Australia toured India immediately after the ICC World Twenty20. It was a hardly fought seven-match series which generated extensive heat and respect, between the two world-class outfits.
Dhoni emphasised that playing in swinging conditions in England and emerging victorious was a huge morale booster, which will undoubtedly help the players in the bouncy pitches Down Under. He said that just like Indian pitches specialises in spin bowling and England in swing, the Australians preferred to bounce the batsmen.
The 26-year old feels it would be essential for the players to play well over a period of time and adapt quickly. "It is about playing good cricket and more about adaptability... You have to adapt quickly to the condition and you have to play according to the situation," Dhoni was quoted as saying.
Asked whether the team would field two spinners in the Boxing Day Test, "You have to play with three fast bowlers in most of the places in Australia so you have to decide. It depends on the conditions,” the Indian Test vice-captain was quoted as saying.
