‘We wanted to be ruthless’ – Rohit Sharma after 3-0 sweep
Batting first, the Windies rode on Darren Bravo’s 43* and Nicholas Pooran’s frenetic 25-ball 53* to post 181/3. It might have been enough, but Shikhar Dhawan hit 92 and Rishabh Pant 58 to lead India past the line in a thrilling finish.

Somehow, needing seven off the last 11 became needing one off one, but they scrambled home. A pair of brilliant knocks from Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant proved just enough.#INDvWI SCORE 👇https://t.co/VsssOXxhh3 pic.twitter.com/KyOObkdIsx
“We spoke at the start of this game that we wanted to be ruthless. There were chances of us being complacent and turning up at the ground. We didn't want to be complacent and wanted to come out and win,” said Rohit Sharma, the India captain, after the win.
India needed a seemingly straightforward eight runs from the last two overs, but Keemo Paul gave away just three runs in the penultimate over to make it five from six. Fabian Allen then took it to the last ball but a misfield allowed India to scamper the all-important single.

“Games like these happen a lot. Especially in the IPL [Indian Premier League], these have happened a lot. I've been part of games like these with Mumbai Indians. Great effort to cross the finish line,” said Sharma.
“As a team, there is always scope for improvement. We need to improve on handling pressure situations while bowling.”

With Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav rested for the last game, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar got a look in. Chahal returned 2/28, while Sundar had 1/33.
“It is important to stick to your strengths, and a lot of these guys have not played much for India so a home series like this was the perfect opportunity to show their talent,” Sharma said. ‘I was also very impressed with the fielding efforts in this tournament by the team.”
As for Dhawan, he followed up his 43 in the previous game with an excellent near-century off 62 balls to win the Player of the Match award.
“It was a good match. We lost two early wickets, and I knew I had to stay at the crease. Rishabh played well, tremendous partnership between us. He batted really well,” said Dhawan.
“I knew he was going after the bowlers so I took a backseat and then I joined the party after he hit a few huge sixes. It doesn't matter to me what people say, and I just back myself and back my game.”
