We were outplayed: Vettori
New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori on Thursday admitted that his side had a lot to learn from hosts Bangladesh after it lost the One-Day International series.
New Zealand went down 0-3 in the five-match series thanks to a nine-run defeat on Thursday. The fifth and final match will be played on Sunday.
"Bangladesh have played better cricket than us and deserved the victory. They have shown us how to play in these conditions," admitted Vettori.
The only positive for New Zealand was new boy Kane Williamson's fighting century which kept the visitors in the hunt for 242.
"Kane's hundred is the positive to take out from this game. We should have adapted quicker than we have. We put ourselves in tough positions with the bat. One game left, must win for us. We must restore some pride in the last game," opined Vettori.
Bangladesh's stand-in skipper Shakib Al Hasan was thrilled to have won a series against a full-fledged full-strength Test side. Shakib's all-round form - 177 runs and nine wickets in three games - was the most striking feature of Bangladesh's performance.
"I think we have played great cricket throughout the series," Shakib said after being named man of the match for the second time in three outings.
"We have shown great character. Williamson batted well. I think I batted sensibly and didn't take too many risks. But I do need to work on my bowling as I haven't bowled as well as I would have liked," added Shakib.
