West Indies have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee following their recent Test match against Sri Lanka in North Sound, Saint George, Antigua and Barbuda.

The team have also been docked two ICC World Test Championship points due to the same, with the two-match series having been part of the ongoing WTC cycle.

The sanction was imposed by Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after the West Indies were ruled to be two overs short of the target with time allowances taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time, with the maximum penalty capped at 50 per cent of the match fee.

West Indies captain Roston Chase pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, negating the need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Ahsan Raza, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Deighton Buttler levelled the charge.

In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short.

As a result of the above, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from West Indies’ points total.

The West Indies remain in eighth position in the ongoing WTC Standings, but with the two points deducted, their PCT is down to 15.
