27155 Wilson appointed to ICC International Panel nov1 2011

Trinidadian umpire Joel Wilson has been appointed by the International Cricket Council to the Emirates International Umpires Panel.

He joins fellow Trinidadian Peter Nero who was first appointed to the International Panel in 2010. Umpires on the International Panel stand in One Day Internationals around the world and are just below the ICC Elite Panel.

The only West Indian on the Elite Panel is Dominican Billy Doctrove.

Wilson said he is immensely pleased with the appointment.

"I feel happy to be appointed on the ICC International Panel in the on-field position and I understand that with it comes great responsibility to continue to represent the umpiring fraternity in the West Indies with distinction," Wilson said.

Wilson explained that his love for the game and the hard work he put in over the 16 years of being an umpire were the key factors allowing for his latest achievement.

Guyanese Nigel Duguid joins Gregory Brathwaite as an official ICC Television Umpire. Brathwaite will serve as a Television Umpire for a second year while Duguid replaces Wilson who served alongside Brathwaite in the previous year.

The ICC confirmed the appointments after the quartet was recommended by the West Indies Cricket Board to the respective panels.
