Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Global Qualifiers: Day 1 wrap

Netherlands, Ireland, Bangladesh and Thailand recorded victories on the first day of the ICC T20 Women's World Cup 2026 Global Qualifiers in Nepal on Sunday.

With four spots still up for grabs for this year's Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales, ten teams are in contention to feature at the marquee tournament.

Here’s how the four matches panned out:

Thailand thump Nepal by eight wickets

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, hosts Nepal made a positive start with the openers putting on 52 runs from 5.4 overs for the first wicket. Bindu Rawal (44 off 56) compiled a bulk of their runs, as Nepal scraped their way to 122 all out from exactly 20 overs.

Thipatcha Putthawong was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/27 from her four overs.

Thailand's response with the bat was evenly matched as the opening pair of Aphisara Suwanchonrathi and Natthakan Chantham put on a first wicket partnership of 66/1 in 9.1 overs. Chantham would go on to top score with 57 off 39 balls.

Nannapat Koncharoenkai (32 off 25) also made a valuable contribution, as the Thai side reached Nepal's total in just under 17 overs to seal a comfortable win first-up.

Bangladesh beat USA by 22 runs

USA elected to bowl first and managed to snap three wickets before the 10-overs mark, including the prized scalp of Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty, leaving the Tigers reeling at 66/3 after 9.1 overs.

Sharmin Akhter's fight knock, 63 off 39 deliveries, which earned her the Player of the Match honours, ensured Bangladesh posted an impressive 159/5 off their 20 overs.

Openers Disha Dhingra (23 off 22) and Chetna Pagydyala (36 off 31) put up strong early resistance, keeping USA on the track, while Ritu Singh's smashing 33 off 13 down the order reinvigorated optimism.

But the Bangladesh bowling attack proved too much for the USA batters, nabbing consistent scalps in the second half of the innings. Nahida Akter was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with bowling figures of 4/24 from her four overs.

Ireland's disciplined effort in 41-run win over PNG

Ireland won the toss and elected to bat first, with Gaby Lewis leading the charge, scoring 42 off 25 deliveries, which was cimplimented well by Orla Prendergast's 44-ball 56. The duo set the platform for Ireland to post a par score of 146/6 in their 20 overs.

Hane Tau was the standout performer for PNG with the ball as she produced figures of 4/25 in her four overs.

PNG in response began steadily, with the top order producing good starts but were unable to capitalize upon it. Ireland put in an all-round effort with the ball, with five bowlers getting on the wickets sheet, eventually helping wrap an opening win in Nepal.

Netherlands beat Zimbabwe by 22 runs

Netherlands, put in to bat first by Zimbabwe, were dealt two early blows as they lost Heather Siegers and captain Babette de Leede inside the first two overs.

Phebe Molkenboer and Sterre Kalis then took charge and stitched together a 53-run stand that provided the Dutch innings a solid platform.

But Zimbabwe, led by Christabel Chatonzwa who bagged a five-for, stifled the Dutch innings, dismissing them for 122 in 19 overs.

Chasing 123, Zimbabwe lost four wicktes for just 25 runs and never recovered from the early blows. None of the top six batters were able to cross the 20-run mark.

Nyasha Gwanzura kept the fight going with the bat, scoring 27 from 16 balls, but her wicket in the 17th over signalled the end of the Zimbabwean challenge as they only managed to put up 100/8 in their 20 overs.
