Australia v England

Women’s Ashes alive as series turns to decisive ODIs

Australia v England

England kept the series alive thanks to the stoic defence of Kate Cross, who protected the final wicket to hang on for a dramatic draw in the Ashes Test played in Canberra.

The series now returns to white-ball action with an ODI to be played in Canberra on 3 February, followed by two more 50-over matches in Melbourne on 6 and 8 February.

The points available in each of the three ODIs will now decide the series, with Australia needing at least a pair of victories and England a clean sweep to be sure to claim the trophy.

The Women's Ashes have been contested as a points-based, multi-format series since 2013.

Australia and England are playing three T20Is, one Test and three ODIs in the current series, with the Ashes going to the team that earns the most points across these seven matches.

Two points are awarded for each T20I and ODI win, and four points for a Test victory. The points available in each match are shared where there is a draw, a tie or the match is abandoned.

With the teams splitting the four points up for grabs in the recent Test, the hosts Australia lead the series by the two points they earned from a nine-wicket victory in the first T20I.

The points were also shared in the second and third T20Is when rain forced both matches to be abandoned.
