World T20 2016: What the teams must do to qualify for semifinals
It has been an exciting few weeks of T20 International cricket in India as the best players around the world fight it out for the ICC World T20 2016 title. There have been some dominant performances while some title frontrunners have had to dig deep to keep their campaigns alive. After 25 matches, here's where the teams stand.

The West Indies is sitting pretty at the top in Group 1, with a healthy run-rate after convincing wins against England and Sri Lanka in its two matches. With one foot firmly in the next round, the West Indies can only be eliminated if it loses both its upcoming games (against South Africa and Afghanistan) and if both South Africa and England manage to beat Sri Lanka.
If West Indies loses one of its two games, it can be tied with England and South Africa, provided the two teams win their respective games. If that happens, then the West Indies can still sneak through because of superior NRR.
If West Indies wins both its games, it will qualify for the next round as the table topper.

England's victory against Afghanistan was scratchy. but it improved its NRR.
England has only a game left, against Sri Lanka on March 26 in New Delhi. Even if it wins the match, it could still be tied on points with South Africa and the West Indies provided they win their matches.
If South Africa loses to West Indies and England wins against Sri Lanka, West Indies and England will qualify.
If South Africa wins against West Indies and England loses to Sri Lanka, England will find it difficult to qualify as its NRR is below that of the West Indies and South Africa as of now.

South Africa was stunned in the first match by England despite an excellent showing with the bat, but won against Afghanistan by a good margin, which helped boost its NRR.
If South Africa loses both its next matches against the West Indies and Sri Lanka, it will be eliminated. But, if it wins both, it could still be tied with West Indies and England with the same points and NRR will determine the qualification of teams.
If South Africa beats West Indies and loses to Sri Lanka, it will get knocked out if West Indies wins against Afghanistan.
If it loses to West Indies and wins against Sri Lanka, it will be knocked out if England beats Sri Lanka. If Sri Lanka defeats England, then again NRR will decide the qualification.

The defending champion's NRR is poor, but if it manages to win its games against England and South Africa, it will qualify to the next round.
Losses in both the matches will mean elimination.
If Sri Lanka loses to England and wins against South Africa, it would have to hope that West Indies loses both its matches. If that happens, then the points will be tied and the qualification will boil down to NRR.
If Sri Lanka beats England and loses against South Africa, it will get eliminated if South Africa prevails over West Indies and West Indies beats Afghanistan.

Afghanistan has lost all the three games it has played and is eliminated. It has a match remaining against the West Indies.

Having won all of its three matches so far, New Zealand has already qualified for the semifinal. It has one match, against Bangladesh on March 26 in Kolkata, remaining. It will look to win the match to ensure it finishes at the top of the group.

India will qualify for the semifinal if it defeats Australia in the last Super 10 match in Mohali on March 27. India will be knocked out if it loses as its NRR is lower than Pakistan's.

Australia's two remaining matches are against Pakistan on March 25 and India on March 27, both in Mohali. It will qualify for the semifinal if it wins both matches.
If it loses to Pakistan and defeats India, the team with the higher NRR between Pakistan and Australia will qualify. Australia will be knocked out if it loses to India.

For Pakistan to qualify, it has to defeat Australia on Friday and then hope for Australia to beat India by a small margin. In that case, Australia, Pakistan and India will be in a three-way tie on points and the team with higher NRR between Pakistan and Australia will go through.
Pakistan will be knocked out if it loses to Australia.

Bangladesh has already been knocked out. But it will look win its final clash against New Zealand for a first win in the Super 10 stage.
