Yusuf Pathan, India’s ODI and T20-World Cup winning all-rounder, announces retirement

"The time has come today for me to put a full stop to this innings of my life,” said Pathan in a statement on Twitter. “I officially announce retirement from all forms of the game.

"Winning two World Cups for India, and lifting Sachin Tendulkar on my shoulders were some of the best moments of my career.”

Pathan played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is between 2008 and 2012, during the course of which he starred in twin World Cup triumphs for India: He was part of the side that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, and also played a role in India’s famous charge to the title in the men’s Cricket World Cup 2011.

In all, Pathan scored 1046 runs in 79 international matches, and also picked 46 wickets at 39.19 with his off-spin. He also played 100 first-class matches, scoring 4825 runs and picking up 201 wickets, and totalled 4797 runs and picked 124 wickets from 199 List A games.

He also had a trophy-laden career in franchise cricket, becoming the first player to win three IPL trophies – he was part of the Rajasthan Royals side that won the inagural IPL, and played key roles in Kolkata Knight Riders’ charge to the title in 2012 and 2014.

“I made my international debut under MS Dhoni, IPL debut under Shane Warne, Ranji (Trophy) debut under Jacob Martin, and would like to thank them for believing in me. I thank Gautam Gambhir with whom, at KKR, we won the IPL trophy twice. I would also like to thank my brother and backbone Irfan Pathan, who was always there for me during the highs and lows of my career.”
