Zimbabwe edges Netherlands in thriller

Batting first after being put in at Thailand Cricket Ground, Zimbabwe rode on contributions from many of its batters to reach a competitive 110 for 5. Mary-Anne Musonda (19), Sharne Mayers (22), Josephine Nkomo (19 not out) and Precious Marange (24 not out) all played good hands for Zimbabwe.

Sterre Kalis then kept Netherlands on track with a 62-ball 49 before being run out attempting a second run in the final over, in which Netherlands needed 12 runs. Heather Siegers (18 in 16 balls) did her best, but with three runs required off the last delivery, bowled by Nkomo, she failed to get enough on the ball and was run out as well and that brought an end to the drama with the scoreboard reading 108 for 4.

Across at Asian Institute of Technology Ground, it was the Norma Ovasuru show as PNG won by seven wickets.

PNG chose to field, and a three-wicket burst from Ovasuru (3-313) helped it restrict Thailand to 70 for 6, Naruemol Chaiwai top scoring with 22 from 46 balls at the top of the order. Ovasuru then returned to helm the chase, scoring 36 from 52 balls, as the target was crossed in just 17 overs.

In Group A, Bangladesh Women, having won their second game in a row in the morning, stayed on top of the table with four points, with PNG and Scotland Women both on two points, but PNG at No. 2 because of a superior net run-rate. In Group B, Ireland Women and Zimbabwe have both now won two in two, but Ireland is well above Zimbabwe on net run-rate.
