Zimbabwe recall Taylor, Jarvis for Windies Tests
Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis have been included in the Zimbabwe squad for the two-Test series against Windies in Bulawayo starting on October 21, Zimbabwe Cricket announced on Tuesday (October 17).
Both Taylor, the wicketkeeper-batsman who led the country in 13 Tests, and Jarvis, the right-arm medium-pacer, had walked away from Zimbabwe cricket after signing Kolpak deals but recently returned to the international fold after being released by Nottinghamshire and Lancashire, their respective counties, within weeks of each other.
Taylor last featured for Zimbabwe in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in a group game against India where he scored a century in a losing cause, while Jarvis' last outing in national colours also came against India, back in 2013 in Bulawayo in a One-Day International. Taylor’s last Test match was in late 2014, while Jarvis hasn’t played Test cricket since 2013, both against Bangladesh.
Solomon Mire, one of Zimbabwe’s best limited-overs batsmen in recent times, was in line to make his Test debut after being included in the squad of 16, while Nyasha Mayavo, the uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman, earned a call-up as cover for Regis Chakabva.
Other inclusions to the squad that toured Sri Lanka in July for a one-off Test were Chamu Chibhabha, the top-order batsman, Tendai Chisoro, the left-arm pacer, and Michael Chinouya, the medium-pacer.
Making way to accommodate the seven were Ryan Burl, Tendai Chatara, Tarisai Musakanda, Donald Tiripano, Nathan Waller, Carl Mumba and Natsai M’shangwe.
Squad: Graeme Cremer (capt), Hamilton Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Malcolm Waller, Peter Moor, Regis Chakabva (wk), Michael Chinouya, Christopher Mpofu, Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chisoro, Nyasha Mayavo.
