Akmal and Riaz keep Ireland at bay - Cricket News
Kamran Akmal's late blitz helped Pakistan win the series 1-0.
Ireland gave Pakistan a mighty scare but Kamran Akmal and Wahab Riaz ensured that an upset was averted in the second One-Day International at Clontarf.

Chasing 230, Pakistan were reduced to 133 for 7 in 37 overs but Akmal, with a belligerent 81 from 85 balls and Riaz, with a resounding 47 from just 35, put together a match-winning partnership of 93 in 62 balls. Akmal, who was named Man of the Match, got out with four needed, but Pakistan got home with two wickets and eight balls to spare.

An excellent ball spell from Trent Johnston, well supported by Tim Murtagh, reduced Pakistan to 17 for four in the 10th over, but Misbah-ul-Haq (24) and Shoaib Malik (42) started the recovery. When Malik fell, leg before to George Dockrell, and Abdur Rehman was smartly caught at cover by Kevin O'Brien Ireland had a sniff.

But Akmal and Riaz put the pressure back on Ireland’s bowlers. Earlier, Ed Joyce scored his first ODI hundred for Ireland in their 229 for nine. Joyce batted long for, finishing on 116 from 132 balls with 12 fours and a six.

Asad Ali made an impression when he had  William Porterfield, the Ireland captain, caught behind in his second over and Riaz got among the wickets when Niall O'Brien was dismissed for 29.

Rehman was excellent and returned figures of 4-48 from his 10 overs. Murtagh added 33 for the ninth wicket with Joyce, but in the end it wasn't enough.
