The England Cricket Board (ECB) today announced their 16-player squad for the upcoming tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The series will be played in Lahore and Rawalpindi from October 18 to 31, culminating in a final between the top two sides.

Harry Brook continues to lead the side after a 2-1 ODI series win over Sri Lanka on home soil last month. The notable returns to the squad are Adil Rashid, who was out with a hand injury and all-rounder Sam Curran, who has recovered from a groin injury.

England’s squad for the tri-series: Harry Brook (c), Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Mason Crane, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.

England will be without the experience of Jos Buttler, who walked off the field in England’s second ODI with a hamstring injury. In Buttler’s absence Jordan Cox proved handy behind the stumps and with the willow, as he scored 76 off 52 balls to power England to 355 in the series-decider at The Oval.

Jofra Archer has been rested for this tour, with leg-spinner Mason Crane receiving a maiden ODI call-up eight years after his lone Test appearance in the final Test of the 2018 Ashes in Sydney. The 29-year-old has also featured in two T20Is, yielding a solitary wicket and will be in contention to make his ODI debut.

Some new talents have also been added in the mix in the form of 22-year-old all-rounder James Coles and 21-year-old pacer Henry Crocombe. They both were included in the white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka series.

England’s tri-series opener is against Pakistan on October 20 in Rawalpindi as the sides look to continue their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027.
