He may have only featured in 18 Tests, but Fred Spofforth certainly made a lasting impression, taking 94 wickets at an average of just 18.41. He was the first to take a Test hat-trick, in 1879.

Player Bio

Also known as "The Demon Bowler", Fred Spofforth was arguably Australia's finest pace bowler of the 19th century. He was the first Australian bowler to pick up 50 Test wickets, and also the first to take a Test hat-trick in 1879. He played Test cricket between 1877 and 1887, and then moved to England where he played for Derbyshire. In 2009, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
