UAE got itself out of a sticky spot and forced a draw against Canada on the final day of their four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup tie at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City on Sunday (August 4). Trailing by 253 runs in the second innings, after Canada declared for 369, Khurram Khan led UAE’s resistance, scoring a gritty century to help close the day at 207 for 4, denying Canada the chance for an innings victory.

UAE’s openers, Haroon Iftikhar and Arshad Ali, failed to make much of an impact, but Khan led the fightback and remained unbeaten on a 264-ball 121, which included 13 boundaries and a six, having spent over five and a half hours at the crease. The left-hander found some support in Rohan Mustafa (25 off 120), who came in at No.6 as they put on an unbroken 92 for the fifth wicket.

Earlier, Canada managed to add only three runs to its overnight score of 366 for 4. It lost Damodar Daesrath (111), who had scored a century the previous day, and Jimmy Hansra (67) in quick succession, before it declared the innings at 369 for 6. Amjad Javed was the pick of the bowlers for UAE, as he returned figures of 3 for 72.
