Afzal heroics lead Hong Kong to victory

Allrounder follows 3 for 12 with unbeaten 26 to help Hong Kong edge Uganda by four wickets
Tanwir Afzal wrecked Uganda’s top order with his right-arm fast-medium bowling, picking up 3 for 12 in four overs, before scoring an unbeaten 26 to lead Hong Kong to a four-wicket win in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday (November 16).
Batting first, Uganda’s innings failed to take off, with the bowlers making frequent inroads. The highest partnership Uganda had was a 20-run stand for the fifth wicket between Phillimon Selowa (21), the wicketkeeper, and Davis Arinaitwe (12), the captain. Richard Okia, coming in at No.7, top-scored with 31 off 29 balls, but Uganda was bowled for 105.
Afzal found good support in the forms of Munir Dar, who finished with 2 for 25, while Haseeb Amjad and Nadeem Ahmed picked up a wicket each.
Hong Kong got off to a solid start, with Irfan Ahmed (27) and Waqas Barkat (12) putting on 37 runs for the opening wicket off 5.2 overs. But, after some quick strikes by the Uganda bowlers, Hong Kong slipped to 69 for 6, still needing a further 37 runs off 33 balls. But Afzal found a good ally in Nizakat Khan (16*), as Hong Kong reached home with 11 balls to spare.
Roger Mukasa was the pick of the bowlers for Uganda, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 23 off his four overs.
