20 February - Cape Town - England player Amy Jones pre-match press conference
[Reporter]
Can I just ask how much of a confidence boost it is beating India with the new approach you've taken - you obviously beaten a couple of sides already but knowing this approach can stand up to the rigors of a side like India must be a real sort of feather in your cap
[Amy Jones]
Yeah, definitely I think you know the whole group will take a lot of confidence from that. India obviously a brilliant side, so going into that game I think everyone was really up for it I knew it was going to be a hard-fought match – so yeah to come away with the win I think you know everyone was really pleased with how we went about it.
[Reporter]
Does having that clear identity and clear approach make things easier when there are setbacks - I think like a position of 29 for three might be a cause for a bit of alarm and in some dressing rooms but I suppose you know what's expected of you when you go out so it's maybe not as much of a cause for alarm.
[Amy Jones]
Yeah definitely I think you know having like a real clear - I guess the way we want to go about it being so positive sort of entertaining and trying to inspire people I think is just a real sort of - when there's any sort - like in a situation like we were, like you said there could have been a bit of um cautiousness I guess because we've all bought into that - it just makes it a lot simpler there's not really a lot of doubt to be honest, when you know you've got the backing of everyone in the team to sort of go out and stick to your strengths and you're still trying to entertain and yeah play the most positive cricket we can and put them under pressure at all times I think - just definitely simplifies it and it's a fun way to play cricket.
[Reporter]
Was that the game that sort of reinforces that I think that was probably like since John took charge that was probably the first game where you're behind the eight ball a little bit but you obviously you kept going you kept going was that sort of the game that sort of crystallized it all in your mind even when you are behind the pump a little bit just to keep going?
[Amy Jones]
Yeah definitely I think like even just if you look at the conditions as well, like the first six overs it was extremely hard to bat like the ball was moving around a lot and it looked really tricky and I think we didn't let that then affect - like obviously losing those three early wickets, we didn't let that affect us later on when the condition sort of eased out a bit - which we might have done in the past I guess. So, yeah having that sort of direction definitely helped us to just think potentially we were under a bit of pressure here being three down early but how can we put that pressure back on them and I think the answer to that is always going to your strengths and backing yourself, so yeah really pleased with how it came off.
[Reporter]
Does it feel like you guys are on a bit of a roll at the minute?
[Amy Jones]
Yeah I think so we've had three good games obviously, I think we keep saying we're still searching for the complete performance - but in terms of how we've gone about those three games I think it's been brilliant and yeah it's been an exciting way to play and sitting in the dugout watching the others bat as well is brilliant and the way everyone's going about it I think is we're in a really good place.
[Reporter]
And just how are you feeling at the crease on Saturday and how's your tournament been going so far?
[Amy Jones]
It's been quite quiet with the bat I guess before the other day, but yeah I felt got a lot of confidence from that - I think felt a little bit nervous at the start maybe with the sort of - it felt like a big game that there was a great atmosphere, so to get through the first few balls and then yeah open up and play the way that I want to play and we all want to play I think was a great confidence boost for me personally.
[Reporter]
And just lastly for me obviously Pakistan tomorrow, what are you expecting from them I suppose you know the character finish on top spot or guaranteeing top spot means you obviously be dialled in for the game.
[Amy Jones]
Yeah, I think they're obviously a really good team and they've played some really good cricket already in this tournament so it's an important game for us to finish on top and I think you know from them a lot of good spinners - so our game plans against them are going to have to be really clear. But yeah, we're just really looking forward to getting back out there and sort of continuing this momentum we've got and yeah looking forward to it.
[Reporter]
I was just wondering do you sort of take heart from not avoiding Australia or would it not have - or possibly not avoiding Australia in the semi-finals- is that not a concern for you at all - obviously you'll have to play them at some point just assuming they get that far - is that a concern for you?
[Amy Jones]
No, not a concern I think as a group we know that if we're to win the World Cup we need to beat India, Australia and so for us it's not really important when we come against them - obviously they're an incredible side but yeah, it's not something we're thinking about trying to avoid them, I think you know we've come to win the World Cup so to do that we're going to have to beat them at some stage, so yeah I guess the timing is not really important.
