The 21-run win takes Australia marginally ahead of India at the top, with the visitors racking up 113.286 rating points compared to the Men in Blue's 112.638. Before the start of the final ODI, India were on top with 114 rating points to Australia's 112.
After a cakewalk in Visakhapatnam, Australia were made to work hard for their victory but managed to edge past Rohit Sharma's men to claim the series 2-1.
Opting to bat first, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head got Australia off to a blazing start yet again. Just when they were looking to take the game away from India, the golden arm of Hardik Pandya ended the 68-run stand.
Pandya struck in each of his subsequent overs to remove Steve Smith for a duck and the well-set Marsh as well. He was called into action again, this time on the field as he gobbled up a good catch running in from deep to end David Warner's stay.

Australia were in trouble after they lost half the side for 138 when Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey counter-attacked with a 58-run stand. The pair fell in quick succession but important lower-order contributions took the visitors to 269, though they were bowled out with an over to spare.
In response, Indian openers too were quick off the blocks before Rohit Sharma's favoured pull shot became the reason for his downfall. Shubman Gill, who was looking in great touch, was trapped in front by Adam Zampa soon thereafter.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played with great caution, ensuring India do not lose a heap of wickets as they did in the previous ODI. Just as Rahul started to break free, he holed out in the deep, ending the 69-run stand. India's decision to promote Axar up the order did not work out with a mix-up coupled with brilliant fielding from Smith and Alex Carey costing the southpaw his wicket.

Ashton Agar, who had no wickets to show after nine overs despite bowling brilliantly, turned the game on its head in his last over. He scalped Kohli just after his fifty and Suryakumar Yadav for a third golden duck in a row.
Adam Zampa put the final nails in the coffin with the wickets of the last recognised pair of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja after the pressure of the scoring rate got to them.
Mohammad Shami's twin boundaries gave India hopes of a miracle in the 47th over but Stoinis had the last laugh. A run-out spelt the end of India's innings, 21 runs short of the target.
