Ireland seamer Arlene Kelly has been rewarded for her excellent recent form by winning the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for August 2023.
Kelly beat Netherlands youngster Iris Zwilling and Malaysia all-rounder Ainna Hamizah Hashim for the coveted monthly award, following impressive individual efforts with the ball during the month.
The right-armer was at her brilliant best during Ireland's three-match T20I series against the Netherlands as she collected 10 wickets at a miserly average of just 4.30 to help her side claim an emphatic 3-0 series sweep.
This is the fourth-best bowling average in a bilateral series where a bowler has taken 10 or more wickets and was also just the second time in women's T20Is that a bowler had taken 10 or more scalps in a bilateral series of three or fewer games.
Kelly was thrilled with the honour.
"I’m honoured to win the award for the month of August and grateful for the opportunities that cricket has provided," Kelly said.
"The series win in the Netherlands was memorable, and being able to contribute with the ball made it that little bit more special."
Kelly rose to 21st in the MRF Tyres ICC Women's T20I bowling rankings courtesy of her performances during August, with the 29-year-old also picking up her best ever T20I figures of 5/12 during the first match of that series against the Netherlands.
