Sadeera Samarawickrama has been announced as Angelo Mathews’ replacement in Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand.
Mathews was ruled out of the limited-overs legs of the tour after suffering a grade-two strain in his left hamstring during his side’s second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch. Samarawickrama has represented Sri Lanka in four Tests, six ODIs, and five T20Is since making his international debut in October 2017.

He featured in Sri Lanka’s most recent ODI series against England, scoring his first international half-century in the home side’s win in Colombo. Samarawickrama was part of Sri Lanka’s touring party for the Test series against the Black Caps but did not make an appearance during the 1-0 series defeat.
Sri Lanka’s first ODI against New Zealand is set to begin on 3 January. The match will be followed by two more ODIs, and a one-off T20I on 11 January at Eden Park.
