T20 World Cup men trophy

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 is about to get underway and while winning the trophy will be the focus for the 16 competing teams, results will also have a bearing on qualification for the 2022 event set to be held in Australia.

The 12 teams that play in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will automatically qualify for Australia 2022.

This means there is added incentive for First Round teams at the 2021 event to make it through to the Super 12 and join hosts Australia, India, England, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan as automatic qualifiers for the 2022 edition.

From the 12 automatic qualifiers, the winner and runner up of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, plus the next six highest ranked teams, will go straight through to the Super 12 stage of Australia 2022.

The remaining four teams from the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will play in the First Round of Australia 2022.

A series of global qualifying matches hosted across nine countries will determine the final places in the First Round at Australia 2022.

The global qualifying finals will be held in early 2022.

T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifier Pathway

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 will be held across Australia from 16 October - 13 November next year, with the 16-team format to remain the same from this year's 2021 event.
