Confidence rising as Sooryavanshi reflects on historic knock
India's teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the series opener in Harare with a fearless display at the top of the order.
India opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said his confidence continues to grow after becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in international cricket, following a breathtaking 18-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in the series opener in Harare.
When his assault concluded, his 50-run knock included four fours and as many sixes off just 19 balls.
Speaking after the match, the opener said his early success at the highest level has given him added belief.
"When it's the starting phase of your career, and you get these kinds of innings early on, and you perform well, it builds confidence for the upcoming matches," Sooryavanshi was quoted as saying to BCCI.tv.
"It felt like I was in my zone and I just backed my strengths. That was all."
Despite the individual milestone, Sooryavanshi was quick to acknowledge the people who have played a role in his journey so far.
"I would like to dedicate this (fifty) to my family, my coaches, and to everyone who has supported me along my journey, through every good and bad phase."
The youngster also revealed the story behind his celebration with his hands after reaching his half-century.
"I did that celebration for my mum, and the other one was based on a conversation with Rinku (Singh) bhaiya."

India's Vaibahv Sooryaavnshi is the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 Final Player of the Match for his stunning knock of 175 runs from 80 balls.
Sooryavanshi's latest innings continued his impressive record at the venue.
The southpaw slammed a record-breaking 175 off just 80 deliveries earlier this year at the Harare Sports Club, leading India to the title at the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup.
The youngster admitted he enjoys batting there while remaining focused on contributing to the team wherever he plays.
"You could say that I like the vibe here," he said.
"There are some grounds where you just love scoring runs. I'm not taking this for granted at all. I'm just trying to give my best, contribute to the team, perform well wherever I play."
