Cricket4Kids Equipment Drive goes National

The Pepsi International Cricket Council (ICC) East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Development Programme once again in partnership with Australian based charity Cricket4Kids would like to announce the beginning of the 2012 Cricket4Kids Equipment Drive.

In conjunction with Cricket4Kids national expansion to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Hobart, this year the Equipment Drive has grown beyond the Boxing Day Test match at the MCG to include a presence outside Test matches played in Brisbane and Adelaide. Members of the public are encouraged to bring new and used cricket gear to the grounds on the first three days of each test match and drop it off at the Cricket4Kids marquee.

The equipment collected by Cricket4Kids and the ICC will then be shipped all over the world to be used by underprivileged kids to both promote cricket and provide children in developing countries an opportunity to participate in sport and live an active healthy lifestyle.

For members of the public right around Australia who are unable to make it to any of the above Test Matches but still want to donate simply email luke@cricket4kids.org and we will arrange to collect the gear from you.
The 2011 equipment drive saw the generosity of the Australian public donate 400kg of equipment at the Boxing Day Test alone. On top of gear collected at the MCG, various clubs and individuals donated a total of 377 bats, 2,850 balls, 529 sets of pads, 204 helmets as well as many more items such as keeping gear, clothing, shoes, stumps, hats and cones for training and much more. This gear was shipped out to 9 countries across Asia and the Pacific.

This year sees Cricket4kids' 2012 in 2012 Campaign where we aim to collect 2012 kilograms over twelve months. Thus far we have collected over 1400 kilograms and are well on our way to achieving our goal. This equipment drive will go a long way to helping us reaching 2012 kilograms.

The East Asia - Pacific region has a long and proud history of cricket, and is represented by ICC Associate Members Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Japan and Vanuatu and ICC Affiliate Members Indonesia, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Philippines and South Korea. With over 200,000 participants throughout the region eager to learn the skills of cricket, providing quality equipment has never been so important.

This year with such a rapid increase in junior participation across the region we would particularly love to receive any plastic cricket bats/stumps, new and used cricket balls, senior and junior bats as well as tennis balls.

Many countries in the region have also begun modified cricket competitions and programs for people with a disability so would welcome any gear appropriate to these programs as well.

However as always if you have any pre-loved gear in a reasonable condition it is welcome for donation and we will find a home for it.
