England take series 2-0 after rain forces third ODI to be called off

England won their third consecutive toss of the series and put Sri Lanka in to bat first again. Chris Woakes, who returned to the playing XI after being rested for the second game, struck the first blow in the third over as captain Kusal Perera dragged one onto the stumps.

David Willey then sent Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka back to the pavilion in consecutive overs. Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka's lone warrior from the last game, failed to repeat his heroics as he fell to a short ball from Woakes and the visitors found themselves at 45/4 at the end of the first Powerplay.

Oshada Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga tried to stabilise the innings before Tom Curran scalped both the players in his first spell - with Hasaranga falling prey to the short ball for the third time in as many games. Curran returned for his second spell and dismissed Chamika Karunaratne and Binura Fernando in two overs as Sri Lanka sank further.

Dasun Shanaka and Dushmantha Chameera added 28 runs for the ninth wicket to ensure the visitors crossed the 150-run mark. The innings came to an end at 166 all out after Asitha Fernando ran himself out, leaving Shanaka stranded two runs short of a well-deserved fifty.

The start of England's innings was delayed as heavy downpour lashed Bristol. With the rain showing no signs of abating and the forecast for the rest of the evening looking grim, the match was eventually called off. England took the series 2-0. David Willey was adjudged as the Player of the Series for picking nine wickets in the series.
