ICC ACU WORKSHOP 2025
Anti-Corruption
In May 2025, the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) convened a global workshop in Dubai to evaluate ongoing prevention efforts and explore innovative strategies to combat corruption in cricket and other sports. This initiative forms part of the ACU’s commitment to supporting domestic units and strengthening their capabilities.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including ICC ACU Chair Sumathi Dharmawardena, members of the ICC Integrity Unit and Legal Department, domestic ACU bodies, Anti-Corruption Managers (ACMs), and representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and betting integrity service provider Starlizard.
Presentations from 19 domestic ACUs, comprising nine Full Members and ten Associate Members, highlighted domestic corruption issues and shared case studies. Discussions covered all aspects of integrity work, including prevention through education, Intelligence gathering, Disruption, Investigation, and Prosecution. Interactive group exercises addressed global challenges, encouraging participants to identify key considerations and practical solutions.
A significant theme was the urgent need for match-fixing legislation in countries where such laws do not exist, as legal frameworks are essential for effective enforcement and prosecution. Participants also explored opportunities for continuous improvement, focusing on knowledge-sharing and skill development across integrity domains, including safeguarding and anti-doping.
This workshop underscores the ICC’s and its Members’ commitment to tackling corruption threats worldwide. The insights gained and relationships strengthened will help ensure continued progress in protecting cricket’s integrity.
