India batter eyes return after lengthy injury layoff
Jemimah Rodrigues is now in contention to make her comeback during India’s tour of South Africa in December.
India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has announced her recovery from a hamstring injury that had kept her out of action since August.
She sustained a right hamstring injury on 3 August while representing Southern Brave in The Hundred in Cardiff.
The injury was subsequently diagnosed as a high-grade tear by the BCCI medical team, ruling her out of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan, both of which India went on to win.
Rodrigues also missed India’s recently concluded home series against Zimbabwe, where the hosts secured 3-0 victories in both the ODI and T20I formats.
Taking to Instagram on Friday, Rodrigues shared a positive update on her recovery, confirming that her hamstring had been declared fit after three months of rehabilitation.
“Hamstring has been declared fit. After 3 months of rehab. Now I can’t wait to get going,” her caption said.
Rodrigues is the fourth-highest run-getter for India in the T20I format, with 2824 runs at a strike-rate of 119 and is a vital cog in the middle order.
The right-hand batter's last international outing was during India's defeat to Australia at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England last June.
Rodrigues will now look to make her return to international cricket during India’s upcoming multi-format tour of South Africa in December. The tour will feature a one-off Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.
