Jayasuriya to retire from Test cricket after Kandy Test

Sri Lanka's star opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya will retire from Test cricket after the current match being played against England in Kandy, an official said.

''Sanath will retire from Test matches after this match,'' Sri Lanka Cricket spokesman Samantha Algama said.

Jayasuriya, 38, has played 109 Test matches and scored 6885 runs at more than 40 runs an innings.

He announced his retirement earlier from Tests before in 2006 apparently because of compulsion from the selectors but he later came out of retirement.

Jayasuriya scored 78 in his last Test innings during Day 3 of the Kandy Test against England and was out LBW to Matthew Hoggard.

Jayasuriya will continue to play limited-overs cricket, Algama said.
