Jos Buttler rested for Scotland ODI
Eoin Morgan has been named to lead a strong England squad for the one-off one-day international in Scotland and the five-ODI series against Australia to be played next month at home, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday 30 May.
There were doubts over Morgan's participation in the ODI series after he fractured the ring finger on his right hand during a One-Day Cup game on Sunday. The injury forced him to opt out of the ICC World XI v Windies fund-raising Twenty20 International at Lord's on Thursday.
However, both the national selectors and Morgan are confident the injury will heal before the start of the ODI against Scotland, to be played in Edinburgh on 10 June.
Both the squads for the Scotland ODI and the five-match series against Australia are on expected lines with only Jos Buttler rested for the Scotland ODI on the recommendation of the team management. Sam Billings has taken his place in the 13-man squad. Buttler will return for the ODI series against Australia in place of Billings.
Tom Curran, the right-arm seamer, is the only other addition to the squad for the five ODIs against Australia that starts at The Oval on 13 June. The 23-year-old right-arm seamer was impressive in England's 4-1 ODI series victory in Australia earlier this year, picking up six wickets in two outings including a five-for in the final ODI in Perth.
England, unlike in Tests, have been excellent in the 50-over format and currently top the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Men’s Team Rankings. Most recently, they got the better of Australia in Australia in January and then went on to win a keenly fought series 3-2 in New Zealand.
This is first time England are playing an ODI in Scotland since 2014, when they defeated the hosts by 39 runs in Aberdeen.
