Lord's heroics helps England quick make rapid rankings rise
Ollie Robinson reaches a new career-best mark as he jumps into the top five for Test bowlers for the first time since 2023, while Dewald Brevis closes in on the No.1 spot for T20I batters on the latest rankings update.
England fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been rewarded for his excellent recent form by making big gains on the latest update to the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings.
Robinson has collected consecutive Player of the Match awards for England in their ICC World Test Championship series against Pakistan, with his most recent effort coming at Lord's when the right-armer picked up eight wickets across the contest to help the side clinch the three-game series.
It saw Robinson gain six places on the updated rankings for Test bowlers and rise to fifth place overall, marking a return to the top five for the first time since July 2023.
Australia left-armer Mitchell Starc maintains his place as the No.1 ranked Test bowler after he overtook Jasprit Bumrah last month, but there is plenty of change just outside the top 10 after some strong recent efforts from a trio of fast bowlers around the world.
Sri Lanka speedster Asitha Fernando rises four spots to 11th following his four wickets against India in Colombo in the second Test, England pacer Josh Tongue improves four rungs to move to equal 13th, while Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas catches the eye by jumping 10 slots to equal 15th.
England right-hander Harry Brook holds on to his spot as the No.1 ranked Test batter despite efforts of just 15 and 34 during the second Test against Pakistan at Lord's, with Steve Smith now his closest challenger in second place as Joe Root drops to third.
The big riser is Kamindu Mendis, with the Sri Lanka right-hander gaining two places to move into 10th after a steady half-century in the second innings against India in Colombo.
Outside the top 10 there are gains for Pakistan's Saud Shakeel (up 15 rungs to 18th), while impressive Sri Lanka youngster Sonal Dinusha (up 29 spots to 25th) and inexperienced India batter Devdutt Padikkal (up five slots to 54th) also make eye-catching ground.
There are also changes to the latest T20I rankings this week, with South Africa youngster Dewald Brevis among the biggest movers as he rockets up six spots to fourth overall on the list for T20I batters.
Brevis has scores of 75,75* and 41 from three appearances at the ongoing tri-series in Namibia and the hard-hitting right-hander only has India duo Ishan Kishan (first) and Abhishek Sharma (third) and Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan (second) ahead of him on the rankings for T20I batters.
Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan stays at the top of the rankings for T20I bowlers, with Zimbabwe pacer Brad Evans (up eight places to 26th) and South Africa left-armer Kwena Maphaka (up 24 rungs to 54th) among the movers this week.
