Muttiah Muralidaran to visit PNG in December
Cricket PNG has announced that Muttiah Muralidaran will be visiting the country for the first time in December as part of an annual cricket festival.
The Don't Drink and Drive Bash is a feast of high quality, super exciting T20 Cricket featuring six cricket legends who are placed into teams made up of the best emerging talent in Papua New Guinea.
This year's line-up includes cricket legends from Australia, England and Sri Lanka and constitutes the highest profile group of sportsman to ever visit Papua New Guinea.
Participating legends include Muttiah Muralidaran, Andy Bichel, Michael DiVenuto, Craig McDermott, Adam Holliaoke, Greg Ritchie and Steve Rixon.
"With truly global connections this event will assist greatly in creating awareness for the all important Don't Drink and Drive message" stated Cricket PNG Chairman Mick Nades.
On 1 December the players will host a series of school and village based cricket clinics before taking centre stage at a Legends Dinner at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby.
In a new element to this year's Bash, the legends will then split into smaller groups and tour the country for two days visiting both Lae and Alotau to help promote awareness of the Don't Drink and Drive message.
The CEO of Cricket PNG Bill Leane declared this to be one of the most exciting moments in Papua New Guinea's sporting history.
"Murali is known to billions around the world as the most lethal exponent of off-spin the world has ever seen".
"Once again Cricket PNG with the support of Pacific MMI Insurance and Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited is bringing to PNG the world best and most high profile sportsman. Murali and the rest of the legends will tour the country visiting as many people as possible to help raise awareness for the Don't Drink and Drive message".
This is the second time that Cricket PNG has hosted the Pacific MMI Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited "Don't Drink and Drive" Legends Bash with last year's event winning an ICC Global Development Award for Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Programme.
