NZ wins third match, clinches ODI series
Ross Taylor scored a hundred and Jeetan Patel, Jacob Oram and Kyle Mills claimed two wickets apiece in a 79-run win over Bangladesh on Tuesday that gave New Zealand a comeback 2-1 series victory.
Chasing a target of 250, Bangladesh's top order started solidly with Tamim Iqbal making 35 but the hosts lost four wickets for 10 runs and collapsed to 59 for five in the 17th over.
Naeem Islam salvaged the innings and ended unbeaten on 46 as Bangladesh reached 170-8 in reply to New Zealand's 249-7.
Kyle Mills struck first to claim Siddique in the third over while Jacob Oram picked up the second wicket in the 12th, sparking a collapse.
Mills also dismissed Mashrafe Mortaza, and Patel ousted Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan (1). Oram bowled Mohammad Ashraful for eight, putting extra pressure on the Bangladesh when it needed quick runs.
Earlier Taylor's 103 from 119 balls and his vital 125-run third-wicket stand with Jamie How (73) set the platform, reviving the New Zealand innings after it slipped to 13 for two in the seventh over.
His third ODI century contained four big sixes and five boundaries as he shared partnerships with six batsmen before he was the last to fall, caught behind off Mortaza, with the total at 219-7.
Bangladesh struck quickly in the beginning by claiming two openers — Jesse Ryder (3) and Brendon McCullum (6) — in 6.1 overs but New Zealand rallied via the third-wicket pair, which boosted the total to 138 before Islam trapped How (73) lbw in the 32nd over.
Daniel Vettori (19) and Kyle Mills (18) were unbeaten at the end of the innings.
Shakib Al Hasan removed Scott Styris (12) and Oram (3) to return 2-41 and Mortaza finished with figures of 2-50.
Bangladesh won the first match by seven wickets in an upset after restricting New Zealand to just 201-9 last week in Dhaka but the Black Caps squared the series with a 75-run win on Saturday.
The first match of a two-Test series series starts on Friday.
