Sciver-Brunt explains positive behind tough CWC25 call
The England captain opened up on the flip side to a tough selection call for their ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 squad.
A big name missing from England’s ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 squad was that of all-rounder Kate Cross.
Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, who does not sit on the selection panel, believes the omission from the squad for the England mainstay was a big blow to the latter. However, in the grand scheme of things, Sciver-Brunt believes, it highlights the bench strength in play for England.
"Being left out is never nice and for someone who has been a mainstay of our side for a really long time it probably has another level to it," Sciver-Brunt told PA news agency.
"It's really tough when these sort of things happen but that is where we want to be as an England side, having huge decisions to make every time you select a squad or an XI.
"I think in a roundabout way it's a positive for where we are as a group and a squad. The more that can happen, the better our team will be."
Having been named the captain after Heather Knight stepped down from the role back in March, Sciver-Brunt will be leading England’s hopes for a fifth Cricket World Cup title.
Having been out of action with the ball in hand during the summer for England while managing an Achilles issue, the seam-bowling all-rounder is keen on picking up more bowling responsibility at the marquee tournament.
"I've been bowling in practice and the body is feeling really good. That is the plan, to bowl a few overs out there,” she said at the launch of Sage Small Business XI competition.
“Contributing in every facet is something I love to do and I'll be really happy to contribute with the ball again.”
England will kickstart their Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 campaign against South Africa on October 3 in Guwahati.
