Three in a row – Kohli goes where no Indian has gone before
It’s a big achievement, needless to say, and appropriate for the top one-day international batsman in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings.
| 100s | Batsmen |
| 4 | Kumar Sangakkara (2015) |
| 3 | Zaheer Abbas (1982-83), Saeed Anwar (1993), Herschelle Gibbs (2002), AB de Villiers (2010), Quinton de Kock (2013), Ross Taylor (2014), Babar Azam (2016), Jonny Bairstow (2018), Virat Kohli (2018) |
He started the series with an innings of 140 in Guwahati, and followed it up with 157* in Visakhapatnam in the second before becoming the first Indian to score three in a row in the third game, which India lost by 43 runs.
A hat-trick of hundreds is just an incredible feat by a special player. Well done @imVkohli. pic.twitter.com/DMc95fCPPX

That put him in a list that includes Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar and Babar Azam of Pakistan, Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock of South Africa, New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, Jonny Bairstow of England and Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara, the only one to do it four times in a row.
Remarkably, though the feat has been achieved only 10 times in 4062 fixtures over the years, it’s happened twice in 2018 itself, with Bairstow scoring his hat-trick of centuries earlier this year.

The Englishman scored 138 and 104 in the last two games in New Zealand in March before scoring 105 against Scotland in Edinburgh in June.
Earlier in the series against the Windies, Kohli also became the quickest to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, getting to the mark in just 205 innings.
