Topley topples India in second ODI
Topley broke Paul Collingwood's record for the best men's ODI figures for an England bowler, claiming 6/24 from 9.5 overs to steer the hosts to victory, levelling the series.
It means the series heads to a decider at Old Trafford on Sunday.
As India's quicks largely failed to make headway in their team's bowling effort, it was the leg-spinner's work through the middle overs that ripped England's top order apart.
Rewarded for tossing the ball up in his second over with the wicket of Jonny Bairstow (38), Chahal looked to have changed the course of the match, also account for Joe Root (11), adjudged lbw, failing on the sweep similarly to his teammate.
Ben Stokes countered, though also fell lbw, attempting to reverse. Bouncing back from multiple boundaries conceded, Chahal responded, hitting the left-hander's back leg for another lbw.
Chahal finished with 4/47 from his ten-over allotment, also claiming Moeen Ali, with 33 dot balls in a strong individual performance.
Before Chahal could claim Moeen, England had put vital partnerships together, ultimately posting a defendable score.
On a tricky Lord's surface, Moeen (47 off 64 balls) was key in two partnerships through the middle, putting on 46 with Liam Livingstone (33) and 62 with David Willey, who hit four boundaries in a smart counter of 41 from 49 balls.
After the loss of Livingstone, Moeen and Willey were circumspect in a six-over period, before going at close to seven an over in the next 36 balls.
The pair took a liking to Prasidh Krishna (1/53), and Moeen was unperturbed by the pace of Jasprit Bumrah (2/49), pulling the quick into the stands.
England went on to post 246, forcing India to go at almost five an over in response.

Topley returned once more to quash Mohammed Shami's cameo of 23, cleaning up the tail to hand the hosts a huge victory.
