Vaibhav makes huge rankings rise as teammate returns to No.1

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has continued the remarkable start to his international career by making massive gains on the latest ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings.

Sooryavanshi collected his first Player of the Series award while amassing 151 runs at an average of 50.33 during India's recent 3-0 series sweep over Zimbabwe in Harare, and his exploits were not missed on the weekly rankings that were updated by the ICC on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old rose a total of 230 places to find a new career-best rating in 48th position for T20I batters behind No.1 ranked teammate Ishan Kishan at the top of the rankings for T20I batters.

Kishan collected his own career-high rating following the second game of the series in Zimbabwe, with the left-hander scoring a superb 81 to rise to 916 points - the third highest batting rating of all time behind teammate Abhishek Sharma (931 rating points) and England's Dawid Malan (919). Kishan dropped back to 910 points at the completion of the series, but is still well ahead of second-placed Sahibzada Farhan (848).

Sooryavanshi's rating of 536 points is well adrift of his more experienced teammates, but Kishan can now boast of having a better career batter rating than more accomplished Indian players like Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).

There is more joy for India's white-ball stars on the latest rankings update, with Tilak Varma (up two rungs to sixth) and Shreyas Iyer (up seven places to 24th) making gains up the list for T20I batters as Ravi Bishnoi jumps a whopping 31 spots to 41st for T20I bowlers following his trio of scalps across the Zimbabwe series.

Zimbabwe didn't completely miss out despite the series scoreline, with Ryan Burl rising six spots to equal 85th for T20I batters and tall pacer Blessing Muzarabani jumping 10 rungs to move to 26th for T20I bowlers.

There was some change at the top of the latest ODI rankings following the completion of the recent series between the West Indies and New Zealand as the absence of Black Caps' right-hander Daryl Mitchell saw Shubman Gill move back to become the No.1 ranked batter in 50-over cricket.

Mitchell had held the top billing since January this year. 

The other big move inside the top 10 of the ODI rankings came in the bowling category, with Namibia spinner Bernard Scholtz rising five places to seventh overall following some decent efforts for his side during their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series against Nepal and the Netherlands in Utrecht.

Justin Greaves' history-making performance in Trinidad during the first ICC World Test Championship fixture between the West Indies and Pakistan was rewarded on the updated Test rankings, with the right-armer gaining 21 places to improve to 48th for Test bowlers and rising eight rungs to ninth for all-rounders after he completed five consecutive wicket maidens.

Teammate Jayden Seales (up five slots to 24th) made gains on the rankings for Test bowlers, as did Pakistan quick Mohammad Abbas (up nine spots to 17th), while Babar Azam (up four rungs to 15th) was among the biggest improvers for Test batters following his 32nd Test half-century in the second innings of the Test.
