After electing to field first, Oman deployed its spinners straight away against the Irish. And left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed justified skipper Jatinder Singh's faith in him by ripping through the Ireland top order.
He began by bowling Tim Tector with a skidder, had Ross Adair miscue and then beat Harry Tector's defences to find the top of the off stump. Ireland scored 47 in powerplay overs but lost their top three. Aamir Kaleem cut short Curtis Campher's innings and Ireland are at 79/4 at the halfway mark.
