LIVE: West Indies grounded after flying start against South Africa

The Men's T20 World Cup Super Eight stage continues with an exciting match between West Indies and South Africa to determine the fate of Group 1 semi-finalists.

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 continues on Thursday with a top drawer contest between West Indies and South Africa in Ahmedabad.

Both the teams are unbeaten in the tournament so far and enter the clash on the back of huge wins. While South Africa snapped India's 12-match unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup with a 76-run win at the same venue on Sunday, West Indies buried Zimbabwe under a mountain of runs.

The Caribbean side posted 254/6, the highest team total of this edition and only six runs short of the overall record before dismissing Zimbabwe for 147.

Big hits, near catches, wickets. It is all happening in Ahmedabad with West Indies coming out with a glory or bust attitude against South Africa.

The Caribbean side undoubtedly has firepower in its ranks and it stung South Africa early on. Captain Shai Hope slammed two sixes and in the opening over off Keshav Maharaj and his team rocketed to 29 in the first two overs.

But South Africa roared back into the game with their premier pacers Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi claiming two wickets each in their opening overs.

Rabada packed Hope and Shimron Hetmyer within the space of three balls, while Ngidi claimed Brandon King and Roston Chase as the West Indies crashed from 29/1 to 43/4.

Despite the early wickets, West Indies have kept on pressing for the big hits and find themselves at 82/6 in 10 overs. Of the total, 62 runs have come in boundaries. However, the score could make worse reading for West Indies if Corbin Bosch had held on to a catch of Hetmyer and Ngidi hadn't dropped Rutherford off Marco Jansen.
