Charani trusts her strengths ahead of England series decider
India spinner reflects on her wicket-taking spell in Bristol as the series heads towards a decisive clash before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Sree Charani believes India will embrace the challenge of the T20I series decider against England after the hosts levelled the series in Bristol.
India had won the opening match in Chelmsford, but England responded strongly to make it 1-1 ahead of the final game in Taunton on June 2. The series is also serving as key preparation for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England & Wales, with Bristol itself being one of the tournament venues.
Speaking after the match, Charani admitted a win in Bristol could have provided India additional confidence heading into the global event.
“Every match is important for us to win, to get confidence or to get something out of the match. But if we had won here, we would have had two wins, so it would have given us more confidence.”
With the series now level, the spinner said India is ready for the challenge of the decider.
“I think now we have a good challenge ahead for us, so I think we'll take it.”
India’s spinners impressed in Bristol, accounting for all five England wickets. Charani finished with figures of 3/25 in four overs, while Shreyanka Patil and Nandni Sharma picked up one wicket each.
Charani’s wickets came at crucial moments as she broke threatening partnerships, dismissing Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Amy Jones. She returned in the death overs to remove Knight and once again ensured she remained involved throughout the innings.
The left-arm spinner explained that simplicity remains central to her approach.
“I am just trying to bowl to my strength, just sequence bowling, trying to do it the proper way.”
She also highlighted turn as her key weapon, which was what helped her to dismiss Jones.
“I think turning the ball over, maybe my key strength.”
Charani will be looking to leave a mark once again in the series decider as India aim for a second consecutive T20I series against England in England.
