An exciting inclusion in Australia's 15-player squad for next month’s ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 is that of Lucy Hamilton.

A left-arm pacer, Hamilton is a rare commodity in the Australian setup and possesses the kind of X-factor talent that could add a new dimension to the side as they chase a record-extending T20 World Cup title.

"She's just got it; it's something you look for when you're at kids' clinics and that sort of thing," said Australian pacer Megan Schutt to AAP.

"You spot a kid and you go, 'They've got it'.”

The pacer has enjoyed a stunning rise in recent months. After featuring in the ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup last year, she earned international debuts in all three formats in March this year.

"Whatever 'it' is – a bit of a feeling, I guess – and she's got it for sure. The work ethic and her head's switched on ... getting her in this environment, she's going to climb pretty quick.

"The x-factor of being a leftie helps, but she has all the other attributes as well," Schutt said.

Australia men’s side has produced a long line of left-arm pacers who have troubled batting line-ups across generations, but that same presence has largely been missing in the women’s setup. Now, Lucy Hamilton is the player Australia hopes can change that.

"She gets some good bounce, bowls a really heavy ball; it's a real point of difference, especially for our attack. There's not a lot of them around," believes Australia coach Shelley Nitschke

The 20-year-old is already clocking speeds of over 120kph and is eager to add even more pace to her bowling. However, Lucy Hamilton understands that mastering line, length, and swing will be key to cementing her place in an Australian side filled with established stars and legends of the game.

"You've got a bit of an edge, a difference, and how can you use that? It's exciting, knowing where my cricket can take me," said the young quick.

"You always want to be faster, but it's about trying to cement your spot in the team by being accurate, swinging the ball and disrupting the batter."

Australia are slotted in Group 1 of the T20 World Cup in England and Wales, alongside India, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
