One of the finest batsmen ever produced by Australia, Stan McCabe combined pristine footwork with powerful arms and flexible wrists. Across 39 Tests for Australia, he scored nearly 3000 runs and six centuries, including a famous ton in the first match of the Bodyline series.

Player Bio

A powerfully built right-hander, Stan McCabe excelled against pace bowling, combining his strong arms and nimble footwork to great effect. That ability against fast bowling was on show in the 1932/33 Ashes, otherwise known as the Bodyline series, where he made 385 runs at 43, scoring an incredible 187 not out in the opening match.

That was one of the six centuries he scored in a 39 Test career that garnered him 2748 runs at 48.21 between 1930 and 1938. In first-class cricket he made 11,951 runs at 49.38.

His career zenith came in his final year as a Test cricketer, scoring a famous 232 runs in just 235 minutes at Nottingham. Don Bradman would later recall telling McCabe: “I would give a great deal to be able to play an innings like that.”
