20-year old batsman Shubman Gill has been selected in India’s 15-man squad for their upcoming three-Test series against South Africa. Opener KL Rahul has been left out.
Gill averages a mightily impressive 72.15 in first-class cricket and recently captained the India A side to a seven wicket victory over South Africa A in Thiruvananthapuram. Just 20, Gill was one of the stars in India's ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup triumph in New Zealand last year, averaging 124 through the competition.
Gill comes into the India squad at the expense of KL Rahul, who opened on India's recent tour of West Indies. Rahul failed to pass 50 in any of his four innings in the series.
The series is set to start on October 2nd in Visakhapatnam with the two subsequent Tests to be played in Pune and Ranchi.
