Afridi unhappy with Irfan's fielding
Pakistan's one-day international and Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi expressed his frustration with Mohammad Irfan after losing to England by four wickets on Sunday.
At six feet eight inches, Irfan towers above the cricketing world in terms of his height, but Afridi has been disappointed by his contributions so far.
Irfan, a left-arm fast bowler, dropped England captain Andrew Strauss even as he was scripting a thrilling chase. Irfan was positioned at short fine-leg when he dropped a glance from Strauss when he had made just 23. Strauss ended up making a match-winning 126.
For second successive game, Irfan hobbled off the ground with cramps, leading to Afridi's displeasure.
"I'm really disappointed with this guy (Irfan).Cricket is not all about just batting and bowling, nowadays fielding is very important.
"Maybe if he is good in the field I will give him a chance but otherwise I am not happy," opined Afridi.
Yet Afridi is impressed with the performance of opener Kamran Akmal (74) and Asad Shafiq (50) which helped Pakistan set up a huge total.
"I'm quite happy, the boys put in some effort. We have three more games and definitely we will get a result (win)," Afridi added.
Man-of-the-match Strauss was happy that his knock was timely especially after calls for him to stand down from the one-day international squad were raised.
"I've worked very hard on trying to expand my game a little bit. People can talk as much as they like. It's pretty irrelevant to me," said Strauss.
