All*Star players support cricket, Movember & ACA
Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) Chief Executive Paul Marsh and Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive James Sutherland today commended Australia’s leading international and interstate cricketers for their support of Friday’s Emirates All*Star Twenty20 match to kick off the 2008-09 international season.
In developing the concept for this game, the ACA and CA set out to build an exciting season launch event and a vehicle for supporting worthwhile charities.
The match will kick off a terrific weekend with a family fun day to be held at Allan Border Field on Sunday and the Johnnie Walker All Star Cocktail Party at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane on Monday night.
The match will be supporting the Movember Foundation, an official charity partner of Cricket Cares, Cricket Australia’s initiative encouraging cricket to contribute to the community. During the match Cricket Cares will be supporting Movember by donating $1000 for wickets taken in designated overs, to be known on the night as ‘Mo-vers’.
Cricket Cares hopes to raise awareness for men’s health through its partnership with Movember, with funds raised by the Movember Foundation benefitting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.
Additionally, the players have chosen to use the All*Star match to financially support the ACA through the donation to the ACA of their portion of match revenues.
Paul Marsh commended the players for participating in the match.
“Friday’s All*Stars match will be an exciting launch to the 2008/09 summer of cricket,” Paul Marsh said.
“I would like to acknowledge and commend the players for making time in a very busy season to support the promotion of cricket, Movember and the Australian Cricketers’ Association.
“We are very fortunate indeed to have a group of players who are so supportive of activities that benefit the game and the community,” Marsh said.
James Sutherland said the match was a great way to celebrate the upcoming season.
“The Emirates All*Star Twenty20 game is a great way to kick off the 2008-09 international season with the 3 mobile Test series and Commonwealth Bank one-day series against New Zealand and South Africa now not far away,” Mr Sutherland said.
“This match also provides a wonderful opportunity for Australian cricket fans to see the best players in the country competing against each other, something that does not present itself often.”
“I am certainly looking forward to this clash and urge all cricket fans to get to the GABBA on Friday night for what is sure to be a great exhibition of Australia’s cricketing talent, including local hero Andrew Symonds on his come-back night,” he said
