The injury occurred during the fourth delivery of the second over, sent down by Mohammed Siraj, as Rohit, who was fielding in the slip cordon, tried to catch a ball and hurt his thumb. The Indian skipper was immediately taken off the field and replaced by Rajat Patidar.

The BCCI has now released a statement on Twitter confirming the injury, with the update that he has been sent for scans. "India Captain Rohit Sharma suffered a blow to his thumb while fielding in the 2nd ODI. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He has now gone for scans."

India are currently trailing 1-0 in the three-match series after Bangladesh sealed a sensational one-wicket win in the first ODI at the same venue after heroics from Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman.
