Belgium hosts Triangular
Over recent years, it has been BCF policy to blood junior players in the Indoor squad. Although Belgium lost their two matches against France and a Kent team, the experience for the youngsters was immeasurable. In the squad of eight players, four of them are 15 years old.
The triangular tournament has been going for some years now and had recently been held in Le Touquet. However, on the 4th February 2006 Belgium hosted the event at the Scheppers Institute in Mechelen for the first time.
The Kent CCC Supporters Club, ably led by Long John Bray, brought 58 people over by coach including the Canterbury Indoor team. The purpose of the visit, apart from the cricket, is to raise funds for this year's beneficiary, David Fulton. In previous years, the beneficiary has played and brought a star-studded Kent CC team. Due to other engagements the Canterbury team stepped in. They were a very friendly and professional outfit and a credit to Kent.
It was also great to again welcome David Bordes and his squad. Belgian cricket has a special relationship with the French and enjoy their company both on and off the field. There is always a healthy rivalry between the two countries.
The Kent team won both their matches and France beat Belgium but the young Belgians put up a good fight.
During the evening, the teams and supporters enjoyed a tremendous buffet at the Corinthia Hotel (including a number of speeches by John Bray!!). The Kent group took a guided tour round Antwerp on the Sunday morning and then left for home after an enjoyable lunch at the hotel.
