BSP School Kriket bags Global Development Award
The BSP School Kriket programme has bagged the ICC Global award of Best Junior Participation initiative for the second year in succession.
Sponsored by BSP and managed by Cricket PNG, the programme has been an outstanding success in sustaining interest in regular cricket for a very high number of young people as a follow on to the huge number of children exposed to the game in 2010 in schools.
In 2010, it was awarded 'Best Junior Development Initiative? regionally at the 2010 Pepsi ICC East-Asia Pacific Development Programme Annual Awards and went on to receive global recognition by being named "Best Junior Participation Initiative" globally at the 2010 Pepsi ICC Development Programme Awards.
This year's judging panel featured current ICC President Sharad Pawar, alongside former ICC presidents David Morgan, Ehsan Mani and Malcolm Gray. John Stephenson, the acting Secretary and Chief Executive of Marylebone Cricket Club, completed the line-up.
ICC Global Development Manager Tim Anderson said of this year's awards: "Once again it is fantastic to see so many outstanding initiatives and people recognised for their contribution to making cricket a bigger, better global game."
"On behalf of the ICC I would like to congratulate all the award winners and the nominees who were unsuccessful this year - your continued dedication to cricket's growth around the world is making a substantial difference and we thank you for your efforts."
BSP Group Chief Executive Officer Ian B Clyne in welcoming this award said "BSP is proud to partner with Cricket PNG in developing the game of cricket among children and the community. This strong growth is a result of the hard work, commitment and stability of the Cricket PNG Administration and the strong support from BSP."
Mr Clyne said the BSP School Kriket programme has made history and proved successful in the initial two years and BSP is delighted to sustain the development of cricket among children and communities.
"It's great recognition for the hard work of all our staff," said Greg Campbell the General Manager of Cricket PNG.
"It's pretty hard not take notice of the large numbers of students participating in the BSP School Kriket Program, its all thanks our Regional Cricket Managers, Development staff and our Australian Volunteers," said Campbell.
"Without BSP's support all this is simply not possible. I want to thank BSP for their continued support. We are very proud to have BSP as our partner in this program and together we can be proud of this achievement," continued Campbell.
BSP's relationship with Cricket PNG began in 2010, when BSP took on the sponsorship of K750,000 for three years. This initial three year partnership ends this year, and BSP renewed it for another three years, from 2013 ? 2015.
BSP as sponsor and facilitator Cricket PNG are excited and keen to take cricket even further to children and communities nationwide.
