John Campbell, uncapped in ODI cricket, has been rewarded for his strong showing in the Tests with a spot in the 50-over side after Evin Lewis had to pull out with a groin injury, sustained during the Bangladesh Premier League.

Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell have also been called up for the first two ODIs after injuries to the Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul.

Campbell showed plenty of promise in his maiden Test series, thrice scoring 40s, and he could get an opportunity to build on that in the 50-over format.

Brathwaite, meanwhile, will fly back home from the Pakistan Super League, where he is representing Lahore Qalandars. The all-rounder has played 28 ODIs so far, but his last outing in the format came in March 2018.

With the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 around the corner, the three players will be hoping to make a mark. "With our squad suffering from a few players with injuries even before a ball is bowled, an opportunity presents itself for other players to make a claim for World Cup spots," said Courtney Browne, the Windies selector.

"After a good showing as an opener in the Test matches, John Campbell – a fearless and attacking opening batter – will replace Evin Lewis, who had to be withdrawn from the squad with a groin injury.

"Carlos Brathwaite, who last played in the World Cup qualifiers and who was a replacement in the last ODI series in Bangladesh, will also join the squad along with Sheldon Cottrell who last played against Bangladesh last year in the Caribbean. They will replace Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul who are also both sidelined with injuries."

Squad (for first two ODIs): Jason Holder (c), Fabian Allen, Devendra Bishoo, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, John Campbell, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope (wk), Ashley Nurse, Nicholas Pooran, Kemar Roach, Oshane Thomas
