Canada XI surprise West Indies HPC XI
Hosts Canada XI sprung a huge surprise in the ongoing Cricket Canada Summer Festival at Ontario in Thursday. The series is the final set of matches for Canada XI at home before their campaign starts in the showpiece ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The representative Canada side beat the fancied West Indies High Performance Centre XI by three wickets in a low-scoring encounter.
Batting first West Indies High Performance Centre XI could only manage 118 and did not even bat out their full quota of 50 overs. Rajendra Chandrika top-scored with 28, but Canada XI captain Rizwan Cheema's spell of 4-20 triggered a lower-order collapse.
In reply, Canada XI stuttered mid-way going from 42-1 to 76-6 but eventually got home by three wickets. Fast bowler Jason Holder (3-9) and left-arm spinner Veersammy Permaul (1-10) made things difficult for the hosts but could not deny them a win.
The next match in the series is a Twenty20 game between West Indies High Performance XI and Bermuda XI.
